How to Choose the Best Tiger Tail Beading Wire: Thickness & Strands for Perfect Jewelry

Posted on September 18, 2024October 5, 2024 By corinasuicon@gmail.com No Comments on How to Choose the Best Tiger Tail Beading Wire: Thickness & Strands for Perfect Jewelry

Tiger tail wire is great for making jewelry because it’s strong and flexible. It’s made of tiny steel wires wrapped in a smooth nylon coating. When you’re making jewelry, choosing the right wire is super important to make sure your jewelry looks good and stays together. There are two main things to think about: how thick the wire is and how many strands it has. Let’s break it down to make it easy.

What Are Strands?

Strands are the little wires inside the tiger tail wire. The more strands it has, the more bendy or flexible the wire is.

  • 7 strands: This type is strong but doesn’t bend much. It’s good for heavier jewelry, but it can bend out of shape if you’re not careful.
  • 19 strands: This is in the middle—strong and flexible. It works well for most jewelry, like necklaces and bracelets.
  • 49 strands: This one is the most flexible, so it’s good for soft and delicate jewelry that needs to move easily.

How Thick Should the Wire Be?

Wire also comes in different thicknesses. Thicker wire is stronger, while thinner wire is more bendy and good for small beads.

Thin Wire (0.012″ – 0.015″)

  • Light Jewelry: Thin wire is good for small, light jewelry like earrings or small necklaces.
  • Tiny Beads: It fits through beads with small holes, like pearls.
  • Blends In: Thin wire is less noticeable, so your beads will stand out more.

Medium Wire (0.018″)

  • Good for Most Jewelry: Medium wire is strong and flexible, so it’s a great choice for lots of different projects.
  • Medium-Sized Beads: It works well with medium-sized beads for necklaces and bracelets.

Thick Wire (0.024″)

  • Heavy Beads: Use thick wire if you’re using heavy beads like glass or metal.
  • Bracelets: Since bracelets get a lot of wear, thick wire makes them stronger.
  • Big Jewelry: For big, bold designs, thick wire will help keep everything in place.

Simple Tips

To pick the best wire, think about the kind of jewelry you’re making. For heavy, chunky pieces, use thick wire (0.024″). For small, light jewelry, go with thin wire (0.012″ – 0.015″). If you’re making something in the middle, medium wire (0.018″) is usually a safe bet. Choosing the right wire will help your jewelry last longer and look great.
